InCommunity Celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month
Grant B., Hamilton Hotel
The month of October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), where we recognize individuals with disabilities in the workplace. In 1945, Congress attempted to educate the public about issues relating to disability and employment by enacting Public Law 176, declaring the first week in October as National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week. In 1962, the word “Physically” was removed to acknowledge the employment needs and contributions to individuals with all types of disabilities. 25 years later, Congress expanded the week to a month and changed the name to National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
InCommunity celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month by acknowledging all who participate in our Supported Employment Program called, EmployABILITY. EmployABILITY establishes employment opportunities for adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities in a traditional work environment. Support is provided through pre-vocational training, career counseling, on-the-job training, and individually tailored supervision.
Happy National Disability Employment Awareness Month!
